"When the mantra is chanted by a pure devotee of the Lord, it has the greatest effect on hearers, and therefore this chanting should be heard from the lips of a pure devotee of the Lord, so that immediate effects can be achieved. As far as possible, (chanting from the lips of non-devotees should be avoided, just as one would avoid milk touched by the lips of a serpent because it has poisonous effects").
Is it true (non devotees) of Lord Krishna must not chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra? I had always thought anyone ..devotee or not.. was aloud to Chant? I am new and still learning about KC, PLease Advise.
Many Thanks - Danielle

Re: Hare Krishna Maha Mantra
Tue, September 16, 2008 - 10:36 AMAll should chant, but is better to hear the mantra chanted by a devotee.
For example many people teach Bhagavad Gita, but do not accept Krishna and are not devotees and have no intention of becoming devotees, the natural conclusion of the Gita. One is best suited not to hear from such people. Similarly those who are not devotees and who may be apposed to devotional principles like some impersonalist groups, such persons we should avoid hearing from. Such people who teach that Krishna is unreal that you are God and there is no higher power, such people, do not have the ability to chant with love due to envy of God. Better to chant and hear with those who are trying to Love God.
Now please understand this not addressing the new and curious but rather those who wholly do not accept Krishna whatsoever. Those who chant not to Love Krishna but who aim at becoming Krishna. -

Re: Hare Krishna Maha Mantra
Tue, September 16, 2008 - 11:31 AMI was raised Christian from the time I was a child, and the more I read/ study I see relation of KC to Jesus Christ / God Consiousness. It is sort of the same with differn't Principles (correct me if I am wrong). But if one loves god truley and takes time to better there relationship with god then that person is becoming god consious? KC the same motif.. to become God consious? And learn to better your relationship with the Lord? One who truley wants a relationship with Krishna to better themselves spiritualy and detatch themselves from materialistic tendencies of the world, then these people can Chant for the Lord, I think I understand what your saying :) I enjoy talking about this!!! -

Re: Hare Krishna Maha Mantra
Tue, September 16, 2008 - 12:02 PMYes definitely, there is truly only one path to God and that is to love Him. He doesn't care for all our clubs, or affiliations, such as this religion vs. that religion. He only actually pays attention to the quality of our Love.
Some religions may deal with that subject of Loving the Lord more directly and scientifically and other may not, but it is what we do with that information that matters.
Just like in school there is the subject of math, the subject is taught according to the qualification of the student. If the student is advanced he can be taught calculus and other matters, if they are not so trained then perhaps they will be studying arithmetic, but it is still all math.
Like St Francis who grew up during the height of Catholic corruption but still became an advance devotee, one must advance in their relationship with God in all scenarios in order to find satisfaction for the heart. -

Tue, September 16, 2008 - 12:15 PMI remember hearing Srila Prabhupada say in a video..when he was questioned about KC and other religions and how they conflict, he stated that "the ultimate goal is god" makeing that the point of importance, connecting them by that fact alone.
I thank you Again Nityananda Chandra!!
