Re: Krsna prasadam ki jai!
Sun, May 15, 2005 - 10:19 PMSaltpeter?! How bizarre. No, that's not only not standard practice in Krsna Consciousness, I'm pretty certain it would be considered an offense to offer foodstuffs to the Deities that contained it. My husband's been a devotee for 36 years.... he's never heard of an instance, either. I'd write that one off to a wierd anomoly or an urban myth. -

Re: Krsna prasadam ki jai!
Mon, May 16, 2005 - 11:54 AMIf I remember correctly, it's one of the elements used in gunpowder.
When I was 8 yrs old., I had all my little friends come over for a halloween party. My older brother put saltpeter in our pumpkin, and when the candle burned down, the pumpkin exploded and sent all us little kids into shreiks and tears. :0
(And apparently for some reason, saltpeter also subdues the sex drive. Maybe it just makes you worry that you'll combust...)
